While her conclusion holds true and this piece is good, the better SF I have read doesn’t feature aliens just out to get us (like in Ursula LeGuin’s Left Hand of Darkness, as she briefly mentions) or just like us (for something different read James Blish’s How Beautiful with Banners) but rather aliens out to show us what we’re not, for better or worse.
